Special Advanced Screening of "...So Goes the Nation"September 27, 2006
Location: The Core Club, New York, NY On September 27th, Common Good hosted a special advanced screening of the engaging new documentary “…So Goes the Nation” at The Core Club of New York City. The film is a balanced look at the 2004 presidential election and, in particular, at the political maneuverings in Ohio, which again proved that “As goes Ohio, so goes the nation.”
Directed by Adam Del Deo and James D. Stern, “…So Goes the Nation” traces the strategy and tactics of both campaigns in the run-up to the election. The documentary features extensive interviews with top strategists, including Mary Beth Cahill, Tad Devine, Ken Mehlman, and Mark McKinnon, as well as with in-the-trenches campaign volunteers and everyday voters from across the Buckeye state. Culminating with exciting Election Day footage, the film examines the role played by messaging, get-out-the vote efforts, celebrities, hot button issues, and negative campaigning in securing Ohio and extending the presidency of George W. Bush.
The screening was hosted by Common Good Chair Philip K. Howard and attended by Common Good’s friends and supporters, as well as by the film’s directors, Del Deo and Stern, and its co-producer, Christopher Chen. “What this film highlights for me,” Howard said at the screening, “is what a parallel universe politics is, completely unrelated to the substance of what needs to get done in our society today.”
